Giclée printmaking is truly a union of art
and technology. It requires great skill and know-how to produce prints
that are worthy of being displayed in a gallery or museum. It also
requires that a great deal of
time and resources be spent on the best tools available. These tools
(the software and equipment) are what we use to help
create limited edition prints.
Digital printmaking is an art form, a craft. A push of a button on a
printer will not automatically yield a stunning print. It takes a passion
for the medium along with a complete understanding of digital technology to make
an artistic vision a reality. We have the skill and experience for any
project, whether it is to precisely replicate an oil painting with its textures
and brush strokes, to custom tone a black and white photograph of a fleeting
scene, or to collaborate with an artist to create a completely new and unique
piece of art.
Why do artists and publishers choose giclée?
Artists who desire a compelling means of conveying their artwork in printed form
use the giclée
process. Publishers use giclée as an affordable and superb way of reaching
a broader client base.
The print-on-demand nature of the giclée process is perhaps its greatest
benefit. Since the print file is captured in a digital format, more prints
can be reproduced at any time. There is no need to make a large initial
investment to print the entire edition. Rather, the edition may be broken
down into groups of 10, for example, or even one at a time. Our color
management and printer technology allows us to do this with a high degree of
confidence time after time.
Digital printmaking is a superior way of editioning fine art. The process
can also be used as a way of archiving more transient artwork. Giclées can
be beautiful replicas of favorite art pieces that have been sold or are no
longer in the possession of the artist or publisher.
Although many artists use giclée as a way of precisely emulating an original,
others appreciate the limitless flexibility inherent to digital imaging and use
it as part of the creative process - either to create work or to enhance the traditional painting method.
Photographers use the digital printmaking process because it offers an artist
sensitivity and variety that hasn't been available before with standard
photographic papers and conventional photographic development means.
Along with vibrant colors and rich detailing, the giclée process allows the
artist size flexibility. We can print to the same dimensions as an
original or scale a print larger or smaller.
Just as some artists use a traditional medium (oil, watercolor, pencil,
charcoal), many artists and photographers use giclée as their primary medium. |
